Ten Habits For Creating Your Best Life
“We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.” ~ Will Durant
What kind of life do you want to live? What would be the best life for you? Have you ever thought about that before?
I’ve thought about that a lot these past few years. Where I would like to see myself. What I want to be doing with my life.
If we don’t know where we want to go, we’ll end up following the crowd to places we may never want to end up. So, how do we stop that? What does it take to live our best life?
Number 10: Keep a Journal
Writing in a journal has a ton of benefits. It can help you prioritize your thoughts, keep yourself organized, keep track of your goals, and help you notice patterns. In this way, keeping a journal can help you recognize your habits and slowly begin to change them.
I found a blog the other day about a girl who struggles with depression. She recommended journaling because it encourages positive self-talk and helps you eliminate negative behaviors.
Even if you journal once a week for several weeks, it can have a major impact on your life.
Number 9: Choose to Be Grateful
Find a moment in your day to be grateful for what you already have. I know from personal experience that gratitude can raise you to a higher level of thinking and feeling. Instead of becoming so frustrated by what we lack, we can notice the things that we actually do have.
A blogger that I greatly admire, BeautyBeyondBones, has taken her life struggles with an eating disorder and shared them with the world. She has found a way to become grateful for the things that she does have, turn to God, and help people feel loved and valued.
Every day is a blessing to be alive and some people are taking their last breaths today. This is the only life you’ve been given. When we are grateful for the life we already have, we can start making positive changes towards creating our best life.
Number 8: Create Lasting Relationships
Life is all about relationships. I wouldn’t be the person who I am today without the people who helped me get here. If you want to live your best life, then create solid friendships. Notice the people who lift you up and the people who don’t. If they’re negative, deceitful, or inconsiderate cut them from your life.
I wanted to give a shout out to Little Fears for this bullet point. When I went off blogging for a while, he was the first person who liked my post when I signed back on. He posts a lot of humorous pictures with his little creatures of Little Fears, but he also gave me some great advice for blogging and creating friendships with other people.
We only have so many years to live, why waste them by surrounding ourselves with people who only hurt us? Instead, focus on the people who help you be yourself and make you want to be a better person. They are the friends worth keeping.
Number 7: Educate Yourself
Gotta dream to be world famous? You won’t get there until you learn how to do it! Read books, listen to podcasts, and attend seminars. If you’re not growing, you’re decaying. Also, stop wasting your time! Turn off the TV and unplug from social media! There is a time and place for those things, but not for hours on end. Learn something new today!
If you want to find someone who can give you tips and tricks for living your best life, it’s Dr. Perry from Make It Ultra Psychology. He has a PhD in psychology and is always posting fascinating thoughts on how to recognize toxic people in our life, how to understand ourselves, and so much more.
If you want to educate yourself, make sure to ask yourself at the end of the day, “What did I learn today?”
Number 6: Start Your Morning Right
The above picture pretty much sums up my feelings about exercising in the morning 😛 But I tell you what it makes a world a difference when I actually get up and start moving!
Set up a routine and schedule you enjoy following. Start your morning with positive affirmations that motivate you to do your best. Get up a few minutes earlier and make yourself a healthy breakfast. Spend time meditating and drawing closer to the creator.
Aishwarya Sha is a blogger that I recently found who created Eclipsed Words. She is all about inspiring people to do their best and learn from their experiences. Check out her post Morning Affirmations to Slay the Day.
When you start your day with positive motivation, the rest of your day will fall into place.
Number 5: Think Your Best Thoughts
This rides along with starting your morning right, but push yourself to think higher thoughts. When you feel your thoughts begin to turn negative, stop the pattern. Think of something funny. If you’re dwelling on the past, change it. Stop dwelling on what you did wrong, and celebrate the things you’ve done right.
The blogger Emotions Passions focuses on this sort of thing. They are always posting poetry and work that’s all about emotions and learning how to embrace our dreams. You can also check out the Youtube channel Daily Motivation. It’s a great way to start your morning.
Also, ask yourself better questions. Trust me, it works. Ask yourself “what’s great about this situation?” or maybe, “How can I learn from this?”
Number 4: Find a Purpose and Belonging Place
What do you want to do in the next ten years? Where would you like to be? Who are the people that you want to have in your life? Start thinking and dreaming about these things. Really push yourself to picture these situations in your mind.
This one goes to BeBloggerOfficial. I mean their whole philosophy is “What you think you become, what you feel you attract, what you imagine you create” (Buddha). They are all about creating a community of learning to live your best life and following your dreams and I think that’s amazing.
So, start thinking of your purpose and how you’d like to influence the world. Find the places that help you feel that belonging. It’s so important for our happiness to feel wanted and loved. It’s so important to have a purpose to live for.
Number 3: Dedicate Yourself towards Your Best Life
When you have an idea of what your purpose is, start moving towards it. Commit your heart and soul to it. We don’t learn anything until we actually start doing. So move it!
Do something every day. It doesn’t have to be much. Practice your dream. Learn about it. Do everything you can to start moving in the right direction. If you do that consistently for the next ten years, I can promise you that your life will change for the better.
If there is another blogger that I greatly admire, it’s RaynotBradbury. She’s constantly working on her blog, posting things and giving tips to help people with their own work. You can tell that she really loves what she does and is working hard to live her dreams.
Number 2: Develop Courage
Courage, like everything else, develops with practice. If you want to be more courageous, you have to practice it.
Start small! Do something different today that you normally would never do. Sing in public.
Stop caring what people think of you and have the courage to be yourself!
The Bipolar Writer,James Edgar Skye, is an amazing example of this. In 2007 he was diagnosed with Bipolar One disorder and has used the disease to transform his writing to help people who have suffered from similar ordeals. His is a collaborative blog where different people will post and share their experiences of the mental health diseases that they suffer from and how they cope and live.
Number 1: Take Care of Yourself
I can’t even express to you how important it is to take care of yourself. And I mean to really care about yourself. Stop beating yourself up over the little things and worrying that you’ll fail. Instead, embrace the person that you are. Flaws and all.
If there’s one person in the blogging world that knows how to take care of herself, it’s The Millienial Hygge. She offers great tips on how to look after yourself and treat yourself with relaxing tips and tricks. She also has great gardening advice 🙂
When we embrace ourselves, there’s nothing that we can’t accomplish!
