5 Simple Things You Can Do To Not Get Discouraged

When life beats you down, what do you do to keep from getting discouraged?

It’s so easy to get frustrated when nothing seems to be going right. Life has a way of sucker punching us when we’re least expecting it and kicking us while we’re down.

Maybe you’ve lost a job or a loved one. Your best friend moves or you fail an important test. Perhaps you’re working your tail off to live the life of your dreams, but nothing seems to be going right.

When that feeling starts to take over, here are some things that you can do.

Make a List of All the Things that Make You Happy

Confession: I love donuts. And I love Anime. I love eating donuts while watching Anime! Both make me an extremely happy human being.

What makes you happy? What are those little things that bring a smile to your face or add a spring to your step?

Whether it’s going for a drive or serving a friend, write it down. It could be something as simple as taking a bath or eating a candy bar.

After you’ve made your list, whenever you feel discouraged, think of one of those things and do it!

Get Rid of the Negative Influences in Your Life

Hang With Positivity

You know what they are. They could be a family member or a friend. Maybe you have a bad habit that loves to creep into your life. Find a way to distance yourself from these things.

The things that we think about influence every aspect of our lives, so be careful on who or what you’re spending your time with.

When You Feel Discouraged, Serve Someone

If you’re feeling discouraged, find someone you can serve. According to Time Magazine “Helping others may just be the secret to living a life that is not only happier but also healthier, wealthier, more productive, and meaningful.”

Most importantly, try to give without expecting anything in return. Give out of the goodness of your heart.

Spend time outside

Find a friend who owns a dog and go play with it for a while! Heck, play with your dog if you have one!

Whenever you feel discouraged, go for a walk. Research shows that nature has a way of influencing our thoughts and actions. Go on a hike or go to a local park. Spend a moment in the grass and simply breathe.

Get some sunshine and fresh air added towards your day.

Remember who you are. You are amazing and you are working hard every day to live. Think on those things that you’re grateful for. Make another list! No matter what happens, after every hard day comes a new morning. A chance to start over.
