What Does Success Mean to You?

What Does Success Mean to You?

I’ve been thinking about this question a lot the past few days after watching this video by Matthew McConaughey.

It’s only six minutes long and I highly recommend it!

What does success mean to you?

Is it wealth? Power? A good family? Maybe it’s leaving the world a little better than you found it.

I’ve never really thought about it before.

I’ve always known what I’ve wanted, to publish a book and be able to work from home. But I’ve never really thought about what success actually means to me.

Definition of Success

“I attribute my success to this – I never gave or took any excuse.” ~ Florence Nightingale

According to the online Merriam Webster dictionary  Success is an “outcome, result. It is a degree or measure of succeeding. A favorable or desirable outcome; also: the attainment of wealth, favor, or eminence. One that succeeds.”

That’s great and all, but I don’t think all of those things are true success. I think maybe in order to figure out what success means to us, we need to figure out what matters most to us.

Do you have the desire to help people? Maybe you want to start a business. Or maybe you want to raise a good family, start a charity, or write a book.

I think true success is different for every person. I don’t think it really matters what it looks like, as long as we’re doing everything we can to reach our personal goals and live the lives we’re meant to live.

How to Find Success

“Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.” ~ Pele

What do you enjoy doing? What brings you satisfaction and joy? What kind of a life do you want to live? If you don’t know, you can do what Matthew McConaughey suggests and figure out what you are not and what you don’t like.

Take personal responsibility for your life. Your life is yours to live, so make the most of it. Figure out what matters to you.

Every Little Step in the Right Direction Counts

Every Step Counts

Granted, I’m not exactly an expert at this. I’m still trying to figure out my own definition of success. But as I’m typing this, I can’t help but feel excited. I love working on this blog. I love meeting new people and reading their stories.

Ever since I was seventeen years old, I’ve always wanted to be able to work from home. I’ve always wanted to find a way where I didn’t have to go to a 9-5 job. Instead I’d travel, create my own adventures, and experience joy every single day.

That has always been one of my dreams. I’m not there yet, but working on followyourheartsong.com I know is bringing me closer to that dream.

So, what’s your dream? Where do you want to be in the next ten years? And what do you need to do to start living that dream?
