When was the last time you completed a personal goal? How did it feel? What helped you to see it through to the end?
If you’re like me, maybe you’ve left a lot of unfinished tasks lying around in your life. Books half written. Projects half done. Laundry clean, but left lying on the bed 😉
So how do we change that?
“Whenever you have taken up work in hand, you must see it to the finish. That is the ultimate secret of success. Never, never, never give up!” ~ Dada Vaswani
Stop Comparing Yourself to Others
One tip from the blogger Foxxd Up is to stop comparing yourself to others and focus on what you can and need to be doing.
Sometimes I get so caught up in other people’s successes that I forget to focus on my own dreams. I get jealous or upset because they have what I want. Or even worse, I give up.
If instead you compared yourself with yourself, you can stop feeling those negative emotions and focus on, “Okay, this is how far I’ve come. How far do I still have to go?”
Meditate Every Day
“Meditation is all about the pursuit of nothingness. It’s like the ultimate rest. It’s better than the best sleep you’ve ever had. It’s a quieting of the mind. It sharpens everything, especially your appreciation of your surroundings. It keeps life fresh.” ~ Hugh Jackman
Meditating has so many healthy effects. It reduces stress, controls anxiety, promotes emotional health, as well as enhances self-awareness. (12 Benefits of Meditation)
Meditating gives you the opportunity to slow down and focus on what’s most important. It gives you the opportunity to breathe and release the tension you feel in your body and focus on better things.
Commit Yourself to Finishing Your Goal
“I have learned that champions aren’t just born; champions can be made when they embrace and commit to life changing positive habits.” ~ Lewis Howes
Know the time it’s going to take to realistically complete your goal and commit to seeing it through to the end. Make a promise to yourself, heck, write it down and sign it! Promise that no matter how long it’s going to take you are going to see this project through to the end.
I have a piece of paper hanging up in my room that states, “I, Juliet Elizabeth Petersen, promise that here on out I will finish Everything that I set out to do.” And I signed it. Do whatever you have to to commit yourself.
Keep Your Eyes on the Prize
Imagine how wonderful it will feel to accomplish your goal. Many professional athletes say that they constantly imagine themselves being on their A game and completing what it is they set out to do.
Everyone has that kind of imagination. If you want to publish a book, imagine yourself getting up every morning, sitting down, and writing it. Imagine how wonderful it will feel to hold it in your hands and flip through the pages.
“To reach your goals first write them down, and then determine different possible ways of achieving them. Then, close your eyes and imagine yourself following those paths. Imagination ‘warms up’ the action brain and ‘jump starts’ your brain.” (To Reach Your Goals, Make a Mental Movie).
Turn To Your Higher Power
“Once you realize there is a Higher Power, you know you’re not alone, that you have a purpose on the planet. You control your destiny instead of letting the day lead you where it may. You seize it, take it and lead it.” ~ Queen Latifah
When I’m struggling to make changes in my life, I turn to God. He knows how to lift me up and help me become my best self. He knows what habits I’m trying to learn and habits I’m trying to break.
There is a great strength and peace that comes when we turn to something bigger than ourselves.
Help Others Reach Their Goals
“Help others achieve their dreams and you will achieve yours.” ~ Les Brown
The more and more I work on this blog, the more I realize there are other people who are trying to make their own dreams come true. There are people just like me who want to inspire and help others. There are people who are struggling and have their own doubts.
Give. Help and support your neighbor. I truly believe in karma. That what we put out there, we also receive. Also, it just feels good 🙂
If instead we focused on what we can do instead of what we can’t, who knows what the future will bring!
