How do you have the courage to travel alone?

But really though. Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about my trip to Hawaii. I still don’t know when I’ll take that leap, but I’m hoping to make it soon. The biggest thing that’s stopping me is fear.
I’ve flown alone on an airplane before and nothing bad has happened, but I’ve never traveled to a place where I didn’t have someone waiting for me on the other side of the plane. Going to Hawaii would mean finding a hotel or hostel and hanging out at the beach by myself. I’d have to make all the plans, traveling, itinerary. Everything.
Traveling alone terrifies me.
Except, I found something this week that really lifted my spirits. I did a search on “how to have more courage to travel alone for women” and found a small article with someone expressing a similar fear. I scrolled through the comments and landed on one that caught my eye. They said something to this effect, “Well, you really don’t need courage to go… you just go.”
Mind blown. Oh, is that all? Huh.
What really is stopping me from making this trip? My fears obviously, but… I can move around those. I have the finances to go. I could take a few days off work. There are so many things that have stopped me from taking this adventure, but I’m tired of listening to my fears.
There’s never going to be the absolutely perfect time when all the stars will align enabling me to make a cheap flight to and from Hawaii. Yes, I do believe in timing. That we are supposed to learn things and do things at the right time, however, that’s no excuse for holding ourselves back.
So! I’m going to try a little experiment to get my feet wet! This next week I’m going to make a trip and visit an old friend of mine. She lives in a different state and it’ll be a bit of a drive, but I’m going to make this journey solo and see where it takes me. I figure, well if I’m going to take a huge leap of faith by traveling to Hawaii someday, I better get in some good hops beforehand to prepare myself.
Wish me luck!
Also, if you have any advice on solo traveling, I would appreciate any and all tips. Thanks!
